Empowering Education: Helping Ohio families choose the school that fits their child

The Ohio Association of Independent Schools Scholarship Granting Organization (OAIS SGO) provides scholarships to help low-income families attend the independent school of their choice.

Members of the Ohio Association of Independent Schools (OAIS) formed OAIS SGO after Ohio created the scholarship granting organization tax credit in House Bill 110 (2021). OAIS SGO is certified by the Ohio Attorney General to operate as a scholarship granting organization.

Give and receive a tax credit

Donors can receive a nonrefundable Ohio tax credit of up to $750 (single filers) or $1,500 (joint filers).

Coming January 1, 2027: a new federal tax credit of up to $1,700 per tax payer for donations to qualifying scholarship granting organizations. Ohio has chosen to participate.

Ohio tax credit
Donors to OAIS SGO can receive a nonrefundable credit on their Ohio income tax return of up to:

  • $750 for single filers

  • $1,500 for joint filers

On a joint return, the credit attributable to donations made by each spouse cannot exceed $750.

If your donation is more than your Ohio income tax liability, the credit reduces your liability to zero. Because the credit is nonrefundable, it will not create a refund.

Fully processed donations made between January 1st, 2026 and April 15th, 2027 are eligible for the Ohio credit. Tax payers can only claim the tax credit one time and are responsible for deciding which year to claim a credit if donating between January 1st and April 15th.

Federal tax credit (beginning January 2027)
Beginning January 1, 2027, individual taxpayers may be eligible to claim a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 per tax payer for cash donations to qualifying scholarship granting organizations. It is a dollar-for-dollar credit, not a deduction. Ohio has chosen to participate.

The federal credit applies only to donations made to organizations on the list Ohio submits to the IRS. Please check back for more information.
